Michael Mooney's Philosophy

"I have to hire the best person, I have to make the right choice otherwise it can bring the department down for years to come. So far, the chances I've taken have worked out really well."

How does Michael make the department successful? Aside from the hiring process, he attends various meetings such as the diversity and inclusion conference in hopes to learn more and meet other people that he could bring in to their athletic department.

"Once they’re here, you mentor them and pay attention to them. Just like when our coaches recruit, we bring our coaches in and we teach them. We want to make sure we don’t just sit back and leave them alone once they're with us."

"I try and build trust by giving those in my department credit. When someone comes up with a great idea, I give them credit and let the rest of the department know, and my superiors know, who the idea came from. I believe everyone is willing to go the extra step for the department as a result."
